Home on the Range... Color practice!

I wanted to do some coloring practice... I've never seen Disney's Home on the Range, but as I was browsing the Living Lines Library, this design caught my eye, and I thought it would be fun to render!

The original drawing is by Sandro Cleuzo, whose work is insanely appealing and makes me want to do more of these.

Giraffes

If you have ever looked at one of my real life sketchbooks, you might notice that I draw a lot of giraffes.

Why? They're pretty. They have long necks. They make exceptionally charming doodles. And who needs reference? Just put a long neck and some lollipop horns on it, it's a giraffe.

But I thought about it today and realized it was probably about time I learned how to draw this much-beloved creature for real. So here are some sketches. The first two are from reference, the last is some attempts to apply what I learned.

So hopefully from now on my spacefilling doodles will be even more beautiful.

Sophie's Masterpiece

This past semester I took a children's book illustration course... I worked with a manuscript called Sophie's Masterpiece, by Eileen Spinelli. It's a bittersweet story about a kindly house spider who tries to use her weaving to help people. I originally planned on working purely digital, but after some persuading from my teacher I decided to use pencil for the first time in a few years... It was a challenge, but I really enjoyed it.

Cheers!

Graduated!

So, the last month has brought some great, exciting developments.

Firstly, I've graduated from Ringling! I'm done! Yay! Goodbye, dark and somber animation labs. Goodbye, gorgeous Florida weather. Goodbye, Thesis! I will miss all my classmates so much. But I know I will see them around!

Secondly... Our thesis film was nominated for a student academy award! We're totally thrilled. We will learn in the next week or two whether we've actually won... Go here to read more: http://www.oscars.org/press/pressreleases/2013/20130501.html

On that note, I want to give a massive shoutout to Kate Reynolds. Due to an unfortunate Academy rule that only two directors can be credited, Kate's name was randomly left off the entry form (we drew straws). But she had just as much to do with the film as Ashley or I did! Go give her website some love: http://kletterl.wix.com/berf

Thirdly, stay tuned for Art. I've got a bit of last semester classwork I will share over the next week or so... my last classwork EVER! Some Children's book illustration work and some lighting tests that I'm kind of excited about.

Fourthly, I am now looking for a job. Please hire me.

Hahaha no really.

Love, Lindsey

Kickstarter for our film!

Hello everyone!

As some of you may know, I'm currently working on my senior thesis: a 3-minute long animated film with my two partners, Ashley and Kate. Our film takes place on the holiday Dia de los Muertos (The Day of the Dead) and follows the fantastical adventures of one mournful little girl who discovers the true meaning of the holiday. It's a sweet story, a lot of fun, and we're really excited about it

We made a kickstarter to raise money to pay for a professional soundtrack/sound effects for our film.
I hope you'll take a look and consider donating, or helping us to spread the word! Please visit our kickstarter page to learn more.

Cheers.
