paaaaint
I'm taking a representational painting class this semester, which is both super exciting and also slightly masochistic of me (we have to complete a still life every weekend, so on top of animating the homework's pretty intense)... but it's so fun to paint again! Especially since last semester I didn't really have any 'artsy' classes.

Animations
Hey guys!
So the semester's over. And wow, what a semester it's been.
I can't even think of anything to say about it, that's how mindblowing it was.
Here are a few animations from the end of the year
Firstly, the lip sync with that cat character I posted a while back. I animated this quite a few weeks ago, I just never got around to putting it here. The line comes for "A Bug's Life."
This is one of those animations where, looking back now, I feel like I could have made it so much better! If nothing else, it makes me excited to move on to the next semester, when I get to continue to explore in animation. YEAH!
Moving on,
Final project in Traditional Animation (ever! I'll miss you, TA :( <3 ) was the collaborative dance project. The whole class chooses a song, and everyone animates a character dancing to it for 5-10 seconds. My class chose a circus theme, so I decided to do a tightrope walker character.
We had to design our dances so that they could be put into sequence and would smoothly become one long animation (hence, 'collaboration'). Our class's final dance hasn't been compiled yet, but once it is I'll post it here, too.
Now, Computer Animation:
Our final project for CA1 was to design a simple, two-legged character (I made a lion! Whee!), model it, and make it walk, jump, and then do a turn. Yeah, it doesn't sound like much, but it was actually a really great exercise.
I think the most exciting thing in animation for me right now is that, even though I may not be brilliant yet, I feel like I learn so much with every single project. I can't wait to get to do more and become better both in my understanding of movement and in character acting.

DPSC Fall '10
Some miscellaneous drawings from Digital Painting Sketch Club this year. Every week we have one hour to draw a surprise topic.
This year I'm helping out with running Dipsy and am not allowed to compete in the contests, so I'll just be honest and say I haven't been as interested in making beautiful pictures. But I've still had fun!
I like how they're all so stylistically different xD

The Weaving Contest Animatic
Heh... I couldn't decide whether to upload this or not, but I figure I might as well go ahead.
This was an assignment for Concept Design. We had to take a portion of the story of Arachne from Greek Mythology (Arachne and Athena have a weaving contest; Arachne's is better; Athena gets really mad and turns Arachne into a spider) and turn it into an animatic. We were given the dialogue and a description of the action, and we had a 30 second time limit to make it work.
Fitting all that mess into 30 seconds was -tough-. The dialogue itself, without pauses, was 35 seconds, so I had to chop it up in places and take out some phrases entirely to make it fit. Then the action-- well, it's a pretty dramatic scene for such a short amount of time. Very challenging.
Anyway, here's what I came up with. The ending still feels weird to me, but for the most part I'm pretty proud of it.
